Koha Basic Search

Explanation of terms used:

Keyword
A keyword can be one word or a phrase of two or three words that concern
the library item that you are looking for.
e.g. you are looking for a book on online marketing. The keyword(s) can be the word online, the word marketing or the phrase online marketing.

These words can appear in any part of the library record. It or they can be in the title of the book, the author's name, the subject of the book, the publisher's name and the place published.

Fields
A print record of your details have fields like Name, Age, Nationality, Gender, Place of Birth, Address, etc. to describe you.
Likewise an electronic record e.g. a library book record also has its own fields like ISBN (International Standard Book Number), Title, Author, Publisher, Place Published, Year, Description (Number of Pages, Illustrations, Plates, Bibliographical References, Index, Accompanying CDs, Maps, etc.) to describe it.
With options in Fields provided in a search box, it can be specified which part of a library record to search into.

Filters
Filters are basically tools that are applied to a big number of search results to narrow it down to what exactly you have in mind.
For example, a basic search found 300 records for Marketing books in the library. But you want to relate consumer behaviour with marketing strategies.
Use the side menu Filters (e.g. Topics, Subjects) provided to look for such books within that 300 records.
